Blog: Harry Potter Thoughts VI

Welcome back!

There is an alcohol refilling charm shown in book 6 in the chapter where harry uses this charm to get Hagrid and Slughorn wasted so harry could steal the memory he needed from Slughorn. I have a few thoughts about this.

• First: If you need some initial booze in order to keep refilling them, then why didn’t Harry and Hermione steal a mostly empty beer/whiskey bottle from one of the muggle villages in that time in 7 where they were bummed out moving aimlessly across the country? It would have improved things a lot to be drinking.
• Why didn’t Fred and George steal some of their parents booze and be drunk all the time (once they could do the refilling charm)?
• For that matter, why aren’t many wizards drunk all the time? If they are, is there a wizard AA? Are there any wizard families destroyed by drunken wizard parents? Or is addiction even a thing? Since it was never mentioned, there is probably some charm to stop that from happening. Or maybe wizards are like Mormons and just honestly don’t feel like drinking fire whiskey.
• You can probably deduce by now that, either from laziness or poverty, I’d be using that charm every day.

As a man who disappointed fans by having the wrong color eyes and being too short, I believe he is doing the best that he can with his career. That being said, what he said below on SNL is unforgivable and just stemmed from frustration due to the fact that he will always be Harry Potter and nothing else.

Because let’s face it. He can’t really act. None of us liked the Harry Potter movies for the acting prowess of Daniel Radcliffe. To be fair, all the younger actors looked like dirt compared to the Acting British Powerhouse that composed the adult cast.

• Umbridge, aka Imelda Staunton, played the cute nurse in Shakespeare in Love
  • WHY WASN’T JUDI DENCH IN HARRY POTTER?
• Voldemort as I previously mentioned, was played by Ralph Fiennes. I bet he wishes Maid in Manhatten never happened. My favorite review of that movie said “Even if Lopez and Fiennes had stark naked sex on screen, the chemistry between them would still be unbelievable”
• Did you know that Gary Oldman (aka Sirius black) played the evil peacock in the second kung fu panda? All I could think while watching that movie was what drugs lead Gary do take that role. Probably a combination.
