Sample Poem: Another Modern Fairy Tale

When 50 Shades of Grey came out, I was going through my own exposure to S&M. All issues aside, I thought the experience and situation were all pretty hilarious and I figured why pass up the chance to make my whole honors poetry class come up with feedback for the assignment (poem 3). The final line is a shout out to our frustratingly abstract poetry book that we were supposed to learn from in the class: “Erratic Facts” by Kay Ryan

What was wonderful is that after I read this, my classmates began to write less pretentious and more daring poetry. There are many merits to academia, but I believe the human soul is an inherent mess and we should relish in it sometimes.
