Gender Course Thesis: Fat

Gender Project

Background:

This project was a final assignment in my gender studies course. It began when I was asked to present a research article, “Is “Fat” a feminist Issue“, to the class. Upon reading it, I was horrified. The statistics were relentless and incredibly depressing; See my summary and analysis of the article.

In fact, in my initial presentation, I attempted to list out every single statistic listed, but I gave up when I reached the 50th Statistic concerning the inevitable, inescapable, discrimination fat woman will suffer in every facet of their life .

As someone who suffered with weight issues in high school, I chose to calculate the before and after BMI’s to see how much exactly I’m at risk. Click to see My Weight: Then and Now of me. My current BMI is on the higher end of normal, and according to this research, I will make less, end up with a faulty mate, my doctor’s will be a little more disgusted with me, and my parents will want to support me less. Given that I’m still very proud of where I am today, I felt the need to make this project a satirical analysis of the article for my final Project.
